NIB loan to green renovation of Siltasaari 10 in Hakaniemi

NIB and the Finnish real estate investment company Antilooppi Ky have agreed on a EUR 40 million 10-year loan for the financing of the refurbishment of the historical building Siltasaari 10 in Hakaniemi, Helsinki. The property has received the highest green building certification rating LEED Platinum.

Siltasaari 10, previously known as Elanto department store, in Hakaniemi has undergone a substantial development project that was finalised in 2021. The renovation combined three properties with a total floor area of 37,100 square metres into a single whole while respecting its historical origins. The building is now a unique complex serving urban residents and employees, and housing a restaurant hub, grocery store, lobby service, as well as a flexible co-working area and other shared spaces.

The renovation project significantly improves the energy efficiency of the building. The property has received the highest green building certification rating LEED Platinum and is aiming for WELL Gold level certification. The focus of WELL Building standards and certification is on the health and wellbeing of property users.

“Hakaniemi is a rapidly developing district, and the new complex will better serve the needs of its urban residents and employees. Achieving the LEED Platinum-level certification signals the quality of the renovation and sustainability work that has been put into this historic property,” says André Küüsvek, NIB President and CEO.

“Sustainability is one of the cornerstones of our strategy. Siltasaari 10 is a good example of our long-term sustainability work. It’s particularly great that our property development scheme met NIB’s criteria, which focus on responsibility and the green transition. We’re delighted to have a financier and partner like NIB supporting this significant project,” Antilooppi’s Chief Financial Officer Thomas Blumberg says.
