NIB continues to finance Royal Unibrew’s market expansion
NIB and the Danish beverage provider Royal Unibrew A/S have agreed to a DKK 500 million (EUR 67.2 million) loan to finance the company’s acquisitions of two European beverage companies.
The 7-year-maturity loan finances the acquisition of Solera Beverage Group AS (Norway) and MC Energy S.A.S (France).
Solera Beverage Group is a leading importer and distributor of imported wine, beer, soft drinks, and other beverages across Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The acquisition allows Royal Unibrew to enter the markets of Sweden and Norway to create pan-Nordic operations as well as to realize the scalability of logistics and manufacturing processes in the region.
MC Energy is a producer of energy drinks, with a 10% share in the fast-growing market in France. The company will be merged into Royal Unibrew’s existing business in the country, further strengthening its market presence and enhancing the company’s product distribution and commercial activities.
This is NIB’s second loan to Royal Unibrew. In 2018, the Bank financed its acquisition of Bev.Con (Denmark), Terme di Crodo (Italy) and Etablissements Geyer Fréres (France).
Royal Unibrew A/S produces, markets, sells, and distributes beverages with focus on locally branded products. The company’s main markets are Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany and the Baltic countries. Royal Unibrew employs 2,600 people worldwide.
NIB is an international financial institution owned by eight member countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. The Bank finances private and public projects in and outside the member countries. NIB has the highest possible credit rating, AAA/Aaa, with the leading rating agencies Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s.
