NIB kicks-off funding programme for 2025
NIB has started the year 2025 with several key funding issuances. On 8 January, the Bank issued a three-year GBP 500 million bond, which achieved an oversubscribed order book despite significant concurrent market activity, highlighting robust investor interest. On the same day, NIB also issued its first environmental bond (NEB) of the year, a five-year NOK 2 billion transaction.
The NEB issuance follows a record-breaking 2024, during which NIB raised EUR 1.7 billion in environmental bonds, demonstrating its strong commitment to financing environmentally sustainable projects. In 2024, the Bank revised its NIB Environmental Bond (NEB) framework, which received the “Dark Green” Second Opinion from S&P Global Ratings.
Overall, in 2024, NIB successfully raised EUR 9.1 billion through 95 transactions across twelve currencies, underscoring its ability to access multiple markets and currencies effectively.
For 2025, NIB anticipates a total funding programme of approximately EUR 8-9 billion. The Bank’s funding strategy includes two to three global USD and/or EUR benchmark bonds and continuing its focus on green finance through NEBs. These will be complemented by a mix of public and private bonds across various markets to maintain and expand NIB’s diverse investor base.
The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is an international financial institution owned by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. Headquartered in Helsinki, NIB provides long-term financing for public and private projects that improve productivity and benefit the environment of the Nordic–Baltic region. The Bank was founded by the Nordic countries in December 1975, began operations in August 1976, and welcomed the Baltic countries as equal members in 2005. NIB holds the highest possible credit rating, AAA/Aaa, from S&P Global Ratings and Moody’s.
