Project
The loan has been provided for financing the New Karolinska Solna Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. The new university hospital is expected to meet future demands on specialised and highly specialised healthcare. The investment project will be organised as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and will be the first PPP hospital in the Nordic region and one of the largest PPP hospitals in the world.
The new 700 bed university hospital is one of the most extensive projects ever in the Stockholm county council. It will be constructed, in stages, next to an existing hospital and the new hospital will be in use by 2015.
The loan will be granted to Skanska Infrastructure Development AB and Innisfree Limited, which will set up a joint company for the project. Skanska Infrastructure Development AB is the wholly owned subsidiary of Swedish construction company Skanska AB, and Innisfree Limited is the leading infrastructure investment group in Europe and the largest investor in UK hospitals and healthcare. A joint company, Swedish Hospital Partners AB, will be set up for the project.
Sustainability summary
The new hospital is designed to meet several green building certificates and will be one of the most environmentally advanced buildings within Scandinavia. The energy consumption will be the key environmental issue. During the construction phase, environmental aspects such as noise, contaminated soil and transportation will be handled in a commonly accepted manner.
