Project
The EUR 16 million has been provided for financing investments in an increased brewery capacity in Grängesberg, Sweden. The upgraded brewery will replace one of the company’s other breweries.
The Grängesberg brewery will be upgraded to a modern and efficient high standard factory with expanded storage capacity and new filling lines for bottles. By concentrating the brewery activities in one major site, Spendrup expects to reduce energy consumption by 36%.
The project also entails an upgrade of the grain combustion boiler at the brewery, in which left over grain will be dried and then used to produce energy.
Spendrup is a family company established in 1897. It is an independent beverage company and a subsidiary of Spendrup Invest AB. Spendrup Invest AB is a subsidiary of Spendrup Holding BV. The Group operates within the brewing and wine trade.
Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
The SEK 1 billion investment Spendrup will make in Grängesberg will create the right conditions for the company to reach its goals and remain competitive in the market.
Sustainability summary
All transport to and from the brewery is by truck. The intensity of truck movement in the vicinity of the site is expected to double due to the expansion. The main source of air emissions is the fuel oil fired boiler. Emissions are below what is considered achievable by use of the best available technique (BAT) and only low sulphur quality of fuel oil is allowed according to the permit. Some odour from the fermenting stage can be detected close to the brewery. All wastewater is pre-treated on-site. After the pre-treatment, the wastewater is released into the municipal wastewater treatment system. The main indicators for the expanded brewery operations are better than the EU’s BAT levels.
