Project
The loan has been provided to Scania for financing part of the next-generation vehicle development project. Scania manufactures several kinds of trucks, from long haulage vehicles to special-purpose trucks for example used for fire fighting.
The current investment programme, now partly financed by NIB, has been running for some years and is the largest in the company’s history.
Scania is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and marine engines. It operates in about 100 countries and has some 43,000 employees.
Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
Since this investment programme is the largest development project in Scania’s history, it will significantly increase the company’s already extensive research and development knowledge. Currently Scania has 3,000 employees working in its R&D centre, Scania Technical Centre, and this project is likely to boost the sector-specific knowledge in Sweden through cooperation with local universities and suppliers.
Sustainability summary
The project is not expected to have any significant impact on the environment.
