Productivity
The new wing in the hospital campus will enable the modernisation and centralisation of treatment processes. This will improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs in northern parts of Finland. The cost of health care is one of the main challenges for Finland’s public finances in the coming years.
Environment:
The new hospital premises are designed to be certified according to the national green building standard (RTS Environmental Classification system), with the aim to reach the certification level of 3 stars (highest level is 5 stars).
Measures to improve energy efficiency include the installation of heat recovery equipment and waste heat utilisation. The psychiatric clinic will have geothermal wells installed to provide 1,180 MWh of heating and 270 MWh of cooling annually.
Expected productivity and environmental impact:
Targeted annual cost savings: EUR 10 million
Number of hospital beds: 308 (25% reduction of beds compared to a baseline)
Green building certification of 29,432 m2 (gross floor area) according to the RTS standard’s 3 stars level.
Geothermal energy generation 1,450 MWh/yr (1,180 MWh/yr heating and 270 MWh/yr of cooling)
Sustainability summary
The project is not estimated to have any significant negative environmental or social impacts.
