Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
Competitiveness:
The new facility may improve the quality of service and increase the labour efficiency. The estimated gains from cost efficiency between 2012 and 2030 are up to 9% compared to the costs the municipality would incur under current operational and facility structures. The cost savings indicate that productivity is likely to improve as well. Increasing the productivity of the healthcare sector is one of the most effective ways to counter the economic challenges to Finland’s public finances in the coming decades.
Environment:
The energy use of the new healthcare centre is estimated at approximately 3,100 MWh a year, about 10% less than that of the facilities being replaced. The decrease equals approximately 60 tonnes of CO2 a year. The new building is designed to meet energy efficiency class C, whereas the energy efficiency class of the buildings to be replaced is E or lower.
Sustainability summary
The project is not predicted to cause any significant environmental impact. It is likely to result in a significant positive health impact due to its potential to promote the recovery of patients and the well-being of employees.
