Project
NIB provides a loan to the Swedish real estate company Fabege AB to co-finance the construction of the BREEAM Excellent and FEBY Gold certified building Nationalarenan 3 that houses Scandinavia’s first zero-energy hotel.
The project is eligible for financing from the proceeds of NIB Environmental Bonds.
Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
Nationalarenan 3 is the first zero-energy hotel in Scandinavia. Electricity is generated using almost 2,400 square metres of solar cells on the roof and the façade with the installed effect of 355 MWh/year. In addition, 25 boreholes for geothermal energy provide heating and cooling for the building with a combined energy generation of approximately 576 MWh/year.
The building is designed to keep heat loss at extremely low levels and has achieved FEBY ‘Gold Plushus’ certification, a Swedish rating standard for energy efficient building. It is also certified in accordance with the BREEAM-Excellent green building certificate.
In addition, the new commercial building will be offering new capacity for the hotel market in the Stockholm region.
Sustainability summary
NIB has not identified any significant environmental concerns in connection with the project.
