Project
The loan has been provided for financing part of Atlas Copco’s research and development (R&D) investments in Sweden within the Industrial Technique division 2023-2026-. The Industrial Technique division develops a wide range of advanced industrial power tools and assembly systems for a wide range of industries and increasingly for manufacturers of batteries for electric vehicles. Therefore, Atlas Copco is an important part of the battery value chain.
Atlas Copco is a global market leader in a number of sectors. The company develops and sells compressors, vacuum solutions, air treatment systems, construction equipment power tools and assembly and vision systems.
Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
Productivity:
The loan will support the R&D investments in the unit focusing on industrial power tool assembly, machine vision solutions and software, especially for the automotive industry, but also for electronics, aerospace and the energy sector.
Atlas Copco’s products and solutions are designed to enhance the efficiency and productivity of various industries. Demand is driven by increased automation and digitalisation of industrial production. Furthermore, the growth has been driven by investments in electric vehicle production and increased focus on renewable energy and storage. The company has been involved in the entire value chain of battery production.
Tools developed by Atlas Copco are unique and can save cost, material, process steps increasing quality productivity and safety.
Atlas Copco has extensive cooperation with several universities in Sweden.
Environment:
Atlas Copco’s R&D activities in Sweden are focused on increasing productivity in the assembly process.
Furthermore, Atlas Copco is developing assembly tools specifically designed for the automotive industry for their electric vehicles (EV). Atlas Copco’s tools for battery pack assembly is an important part of the efficient production of EV’s value chain.
25% of the loan is thus proposed to be eligible to be financed through the NIB Environmental Bond (NEB) proceeds under the “Infrastructure for clean transport” category.
